The Turks flocked to the area and began to reconstruct it, but it did not receive much attention due to its distance from the city center, in addition to the lack of transport and communication links there.

On June 17, 1987, Buyukcekmece became an independent municipality under Law No. 3392, and since that time interest in the region began to grow.

The coasts are being prepared, and parks are being established, in addition to many restaurants and cafes overlooking the sea and the lake… in a way that brings peace and tranquility to the soul, making the municipality one of the most important tourist areas in Istanbul.

Infrastructure and services in the region:

The Buyukcekmece district includes a television broadcasting station in Istanbul, which is the third largest broadcasting station in the world. It also hosts the largest exhibition city in Turkey, Tuyap Exhibition City, in addition to many huge commercial complexes, sports halls, and water parks spread throughout the region.

The TEM Highway and the D-100 Extension of the E5 Road pass through the Buyukcekmece area, thus facilitating movement to and from various parts of the city of the two continents..

Buyukcekmece Lake is one of the distinctive natural landmarks of the town of Şekcemece in the city of Istanbul. It is a water body formed at the point where the Karasuderi River flows into the Sea of ​​Marmara, and it is considered the first fresh water reservoir in the city. The lake is distinguished by its surrounding environmental nature, as its facilities are spread with evergreen trees, animals and birds that make their home on the surface of the lake. The lake, with its emerald waters, is also a source of fish wealth in the country.

Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent Bridge:

Lake Büyükçekmece and the Sea of ​​Marmara on the Istanbul-Edirne road. The bridge connects Büyükçekmece to the town of Mimar Sinan.

This bridge extends at an altitude of 636 meters above the natural channel that connects Lake Buyukcekmece with the Sea of ​​Marmara from the south.

The bridge was built beginning in 1563 by Suleiman I (Kanuni Sultan Suleiman or Suleiman Suleiman, 1520-1566) during his campaign in Szigetvár.

Upon his death, Selim II ordered the construction of the bridge to be completed and it was later used during the army’s return from the expedition.

Coasts of Buyukcekmece region:

The region contains 3 coasts, which are:

This coastline is longer than the coast of Istanbul, with a length of about 26 km leading to the Sea of ​​Marmara, which represents 3.5% of the area of ​​Istanbul.

This coast attracts many tourists during the summer season as it has a group of restaurants with a direct view of the bay, gardens, children’s playgrounds, walking paths, and places designated for swimming.

Tepcek Çamlik Park:

The area of ​​this park is 45 dunums, and it is of great importance to residents and tourists, especially on weekends. It contains sports fields, including football and volleyball.
